1970 Plymouth Barracuda

A pretty interesting and unusual car. An all numbers matching, 383 2bbl, Barracuda (not Cuda), Coupe. Galen Govier certified, an original “Moulin Rouge” FM3 painted car (Dodge called the color Panther Pink). Also, a one-owner car before I purchased it.

The body was an amateur restoration by the original owner in Canada, where the car had been since new. I bought the car through Ebay. At the bottom of the pictorial you can see the car as it was first restored to “as bought” condition, it was a very plain vehicle when new except for the color.

The “Coupe” was a low budget trim option. The car’s rear passenger windows were permanently fixed in place with chrome caps covering the holes where the window cranks would have been. Coupes also came with a rubber floor mat instead of carpet, and an unusual steering wheel which had the normal e-body center section but no woodgrain on the outside. The 383 2 bbl was equipped with a single exhaust. As I understood it, the car had been bought new by the family for their daughter as she started working. Eventually it sat in the family barn until restored years later.

I liked the car and due to the 383 2bbl it was not expensive to acquire. But I felt that it would be even better if I applied my imagination to it so I rebuilt the 383 to 383 4bbl HP standards, with better heads, a better cam, a Demon carb and headers/dual exhaust. I added a transmission shift kit and had the suspension front and back rebuilt to a beefier level. A friend of mine wet sanded and buffed the car and then after first trying 383 hockey stripes I went with factory Cuda strobe stripes. I also added the optional rear wing spoiler. Ran really well when finally done.

Along with my 73 Rally Challenger, the Barracuda was in a 2005 book by Robert Genat, you can see a picture of the book with one of the Barracuda pages below.
